For the 2013 Census you will have the choice of completing your census forms online or on paper, in English or Māori.
Filling in your forms online is secure, quick, and easy. You need the Internet ID from your paper forms and your Internet Access Code which will have been delivered to your home by your collector.
If you haven't received forms please call 0800 CENSUS (0800 236 787).
Can I complete my census forms on the Internet away from home?
Yes, you can complete your forms anywhere you can connect to the Internet, as long as the computer you are using meets the minimum requirements.
The computer system must be SSL enabled with 128 bit encryption, otherwise access to the forms is disabled.
Statistics NZ strongly recommends that online census forms be completed on a computer that has up-to-date security software. This will help ensure your privacy and maintain the confidentiality of your information.
Be cautious when using a computer in public places such as Internet cafes. Check that their anti-virus software and firewalls are up to date. Do not leave the screen unattended at any time, and make sure you log out and close your browser window once you have finished completing your forms.
Can I complete my census form on my tablet or smartphone?
Census forms can be completed using tablets – however, the forms have not been optimised for use on a touch screen. Go to census.govt.nz to complete your forms. People with tablets or iPads that use a common operating system and a screen size of 9 inches or greater should have no problems.
What about my smartphone?
The 2013 Census online forms are not designed for use with smartphones or other small mobile web-browsing devices. People trying to access the forms using smartphones will have some usability issues.
